Troubleshoot your hair extension application - wear
This is the place where we have collected the few errors which would cause you to lose your extensions. If you are having any difficulty it is best for you to review all of the important steps to applying the hair extensions and note which may be a culprit for you so you can adjust the step when you try again!

Troubleshoot your MANEMAXX® hair extension application with TemBond® here!

DO 5-10 TEST BONDS IN FRONT WHERE YOU CAN SEE THEM FIRST!! (Maybe it will take you 30 bonds to understand the technique. This means DON'T GIVE UP on the 29th! (I don’t think everyone can just apply strand-by-strand extensions themselves, but many of us can when we read, understand and follow the instructions. It might even be something you want to explore by enlisting the help of a friend or relative, or stylist.  If you are having too much trouble. Please let me know!)

Understand the method

Read the instruction

Take notes

take time to put in the hair extensions

Typically, you can make errors by not reading the instructions and not understanding the steps.  Don’t avoid a 40 minute DVD and a few hours of studying the method just to spend the next 6 hours attaching to find you are missing a key or important step and losing bonds because of it!

Keep bundles VERY SMALL

measuring strands for hair extensionsThe bundle of extension which you are dipping should be SMALL (1/4 inch flat on a ruler) to seal at the root hairs & eliminate shedding of extension hairs.  Too large bonds attached to too few hairs on the head may be too heavy and cause the hairs to be pulled out!
Make sure you are using enough bond and applying it hot steps hair extensions

The attachments you make will be quite thin, so be sure you are dipping 3/4 inch of your bundle into the bond so that there is enough to hold the extension and withstand months of wear.

GET THE BUNDLE ATTACHED QUICKLY AFTER DIPPING, before it dries. (If it is not seeping, it is too dry to apply. Make sure your bond is very hot and "drippy." Redip and try again.)

Correctly prepare the extension for attaching. steps hair extensions

Dip, spread, dip, shake.
DO NOT SCRAPE THE DIPPED EXTESION TIP ON THE SIDE OF YOUR POT BEFORE ATTACHING! (You'll scrape off too much bond.  Just a little shake of the tip and it will loose any extra bond and round it out for attaching.)

Don't roll or press the bonds when attaching!

steps hair extensionsEven if you think you want to press and roll the bond into the hair, DON'T DO IT!  YOU WILL LOSE THE BONDS over the next few days if you apply them that way.  Get the correct steps happening exactly as instructed and everything will be PERFECT!

Have a plan B if you have too much trouble

hair extension help assistanceAttaching your own hair extensions does take technique and practice and you should expect to lose some bonds at first and maybe always in the back where you can't see as well.

If you are truly having difficulty with applying, please ask a friend, neighbor, relative, co-worker for help. A lot of hubby’s and boyfriends have learned my method. (Thanks, guys!)

JUST MAKE SURE WHOEVER YOU ENLIST UNDERSTANDS ALL OF THESE IMPORTANT STEPS!!

On the positive, the TemBond® bonds have been proven to have far less loss and slippage than other widely marketed strand-by-strand hair extension processes!

Achieving the correct steps in applying will give you both the gentleness of a glue and fusion-free product while giving you the best and most secure hold of the extension strand for many months and I believe that many of you, if not most, can do-it-yourself with training and practice

Those who cannot, or do not, figure out how this works, I am happy to work with you and help you get it down as best as you can.   Let us know anytime if you need assistance and remember...  Most successful feedback forms come with a statement such as, I took my time or I read everything I could on the method before using it.

A few steps you can miss or make errors on when applying, some of which are:

  • Cleanse your hair thoroughly with a clarifying shampoo or Dawn Dish Soap before applying, flat iron at the root. If you are attaching curly hair, flat iron the first inch of the extension hair.  If you have an oily scalp, even after washing, use corn starch on the area of the shaft to which you are attaching.
  • Be sure your TemBond® is hot enough and that the bond is seeping through all the natural hairs when attaching.
    1. Don't SCRAPE the bundle tip on the side of the pot before attaching.
    2. MAKE YOUR ATTACHMENT QUICKLY, don’t allow the bond to dry before placing it
    3. Feel for the dried bond, a hard, smooth shell, around ALL THE HAIRS
    4. Wet the hairs and the bond at the root, give it a light tug and check that everything is secure
  • Be sure that while making the attachment you keep the attachment as still as possible.
    1. Line up the hairs and hold the area very still for a few seconds while the bond seeps through the hairs (You are NOT touching or forcing the bond to attach.  It does this on its own!)
    2. Lift the extension gently, allow bond to flow around the attachment and toward the root, once again as still as possible at the bond
    3. Let the hairs go and move on without disturbing the previous for a few more seconds to dry
  • Never roll the body of the bond, never press the bond into the hairs.
  • Don’t mess with the bonds until days have passed and you’ve washed and completely dried your hair. (Remember the root area is the last to dry. What you think could be dry, may still be damp, so err on the side of caution when it comes to your bonds.)
